Android Code Studio – Status Update

(TL;DR at the bottom)

- We’ve seen a lot of questions about the next update, so here’s the actual situation :

• Android Code Studio Lite is the Jetpack Compose rewrite of Android Code Studio.
• The original Android Code Studio app, written in Java/Kotlin, is not being updated right now.
• Rebuilding the full Android IDE from scratch in Jetpack Compose is extremely complex. Nearly everything has to be redesigned and reimplemented, and this process naturally introduces bugs if rushed.
• For this reason, the rewrite will be a separate app, allowing development to move forward without breaking the original IDE.
- Current status:
• Active development is ongoing on Android Code Studio Lite
• The developer is working on it around 6 hours a day*
• The project is not yet close to a stable release
• Current estimated timeframe for the next preview build is around the end of February, with no fixed or guaranteed date

*Reminder: the developer is a human being with a personal life. This is a large rewrite, and rushing it will only result in instability and poor user experience.

• Please avoid repeated ETA questions. This will be enforced. Updates will be shared when there is meaningful progress to announce.
